A Letter from TCD's Principal

Parents and Educators:

For many years now, Technology Center of DuPage has prepared students to expect life-long learning and flexibility in the face of certain change. However, this preparation does not overshadow the traditional role strong academic skills have for success in the workplace. Our students need the whole package to tackle the future with hope and confidence.

DuPage County high schools are increasing graduation requirements—especially in mathematics, science, and language arts—in an effort to equip students for a demanding post-secondary education and competitive workplace. How does Career and Technical Education (CTE) fit in?

The Illinois State Board of Education has recognized that increased graduation requirements combined with CTE programs, such as those offered at Technology Center of DuPage, form a critical partnership in preparing students to take on these post-secondary challenges. The DAOES Board of Directors has restated its commitment to seeing CTE programs funded, developed, and expanded.

Fortunately, TCD is ahead of the curve. Academic content contained in each program's curriculum has been identified, expanded as needed, and aligned with the Illinois Learning Standards. Academic specialists are on staff to help to help instructors develop teaching strategies and assess student progress.

Technology Center of DuPage has already begun looking for ways to partner with member school districts to help students fulfill increased graduation requirements. The process of developing a portfolio helps students see the critical link between school and the workplace as they learn new skills and explore future career possibilities.

Thank you for sending your students our way. It is a privilege to witness their growing confidence and sense of purpose as they meet their goals.

Edward A. Susmilch, Principal

"Going to TCD was probably the best decision I made in high school. It totally shaped and reinforced the confidence I put into doing what I do. The way the school is run, what I learned there, the attitude presented and expected all had a huge impact on how I go about my life and career."
