Program Description

1 or 2 Year Program

The Construction Trades program prepares students for careers in residential and commercial construction through hands-on learning. Students develop the skills needed for entry-level employment, apprenticeships, or continued education in construction-related fields. Training begins with job-site safety, construction math, blueprint reading, and the safe use of hand and power tools. Students then gain practical experience through projects involving framing, foundations, concrete, windows and doors, drywall, trim, cabinetry, site layout, and basic plumbing. Classroom instruction is combined with daily lab work to build technical skills along with communication, problem-solving, time management, customer service, résumé writing, interviewing, and job search skills. Students who earn a grade of C or better receive a Technology Center of DuPage Construction Certificate. Dual credit through the College of DuPage allows students to earn college credit while preparing for careers in the construction industry.
