Program Description

The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) program prepares students for careers and post-secondary education in the heating, cooling, and refrigeration industry through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on lab experience. Students learn industry-standard installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair techniques while working with residential and commercial HVAC equipment. The curriculum covers safety, tools and equipment, electrical systems and controls, refrigeration fundamentals, gas heating, sheet metal fabrication, equipment installation, refrigerant handling, and EPA 608 certification preparation. Performance is evaluated through written assessments, practical lab work, technical skills, professional behavior, safety, attendance, and employability skills. The program also offers college credit opportunities through the College of DuPage and prepares students for industry certifications and apprenticeship opportunities. Throughout the program, students develop technical expertise, critical thinking, communication, customer service, problem-solving, teamwork, reliability, and time management skills while gaining experience in a real-world learning environment. Graduates are prepared for employment or continued education in HVAC service, equipment installation, sheet metal fabrication, energy management, refrigeration, and related skilled trades.
