Emergency Medical Technician
| Whether it’s breaking news or on a TV drama, you’ll see them – emergency medical services personnel rescuing the victims of an accident or caring for a patient with a medical emergency. In the field of emergency medical services, there are different levels of certification for providers. Emergency Medical Technician (EMTs) is one of the most common types of provider in EMS.
EMTs are well-versed in basic emergency care skills with the ability to assess a patient’s condition and take action to treat and stabilize the patient so they can be transported to a hospital.
TCD's Emergency Medical Technician program includes emergency medical training and healthcare provider CPR as well as teaching the skills and knowledge needed to pass the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam after completion of the program. In order to take the NREMT exam you must meet the necessary age (18) and industry requirements.

What will my class be like?
Enjoy practical experiences in the classroom, including the opportunity for ambulance ride-alongs, crisis drills, and assisting on first aid calls within the building. You will gain experience, training, and confidence to transition from our classroom to a job on a Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulance, into a college classroom, or paramedic school.Students enrolling in the EMT program must be high school seniors, have a valid social security number, be current with all required vaccinations (including the Covid primary series), pass a background check and drug screen, as well as be able to obtain a valid Illinois driver's license.
This program follows the College of DuPage curriculum guidelines.
